Malta Enterprise chairman Lawrence Zammit has filed six libel cases over media reports linking him to a company being investigated in Italy for money laundering.

Mr Zammit filed three civil suits against Josef Caruana as editor of L-Orizzont, Aleander Balzan as editor of inewsmalta.com and Alternattiva Demokratika’s deputy chairman, Carmel Cacopardo, as author of a blog.

The suits refer to articles published between January 1 and 3 alleging that Mr Zammit was involved in a company that was a shareholder in another firm being investigated by the Italian authorities for money laundering.

Mr Zammit also filed three criminal libel suits against Mr Caruana, Mr Balzan and Mr Cacopardo. He wrote to the police requesting that they take action against the three men for defamation.

Lawyer Andrew Borg Cardona signed the writs.
