Violence can never be justified and the Karin Grech remembrance ceremony each year helped the people renew the promise for there never to be similar incidents again, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this evening.

Karin, 15, was killed by a letter bomb addressed to her father Edwin in 1977. The courts had concluded that hers had been a political killing.

Speaking at the annual remembrance ceremony at the Karin Grech Garden in San Gwann, Dr Muscat said that the political killings of Ms Grech and Raymond Caruana were incidents which did not reflect Maltese society.

Their sacrifice, metaphorically brought them together and made them siblings.

Prof. Edwin Grech thanked the crowd for their annual appointment and hoped his health would allow him to continue being present for this activity each year.

Flowers were laid at the foot of Ms Grech’s monument after which the ceremony was followed by Mass in Ms Grech’s memory.
