Sliema Wds 3 Qormi 1

Sliema produced a surging second-half show to take all points from a match they were losing at half-time to tighten their grip on the fourth place of the
premier league.

Qormi outmuscled the Wanderers during the first half.

Right at its end, Sciberras sent a precise ball over Sliema’s defensive line as
Chetcuti ran through to reach the ball before beating Zammit with a perfect
lob.

In the 69th minute, the score was level as Sliema finally breached Qormi’s right flank. It was an excellent pass from Clifford Gatt Baldacchino for Alex Muscat whose header hit Alessio Cassar’s arm as referee Malcolm Spiteri pointed to the spot. From the ensuing spot-kick, Woods sent Farrugia the wrong way.

There was a sense of inevitability about what came next.

Sliema's Faccini made it 2-1 on 78 minutes. Alex Muscat saw his shot blocked by Farrugiawith the ball falling into the path of the agile winger who buried his shot behind the goalkeeper. To their merit, Qormi pushed forward again, almost scoring six minutesfrom time, as Chetcuti drew a brilliant save from Zammit with a rising shot.

Siritto in the match was replaced by Vincenzo Pisani. In the Italian striker
was soon in the thick of things as he set off on a mazy run on the right,
dancing past three defenders before his swerving shot crashed against the
crossbar. But the value of Faccini’s speed and movement caught out Qormi’s highdefensive line as he held off Kris Thackray’s challenge to slot theball home just before the final whistle.
