Two international certificates of standard were awarded to a Maltese company that was investing €2.5 million in its operations, Competition Minister Jason Azzopardi announced.

Alert Communications, which specialises in marketing and catering, received the certificates from the International Organisation of Standardisation. The investment went into two buildings, said company head Claudine Cassar, adding it had benefited from several government schemes.

Mr Azzopardi said Alert was an example of how a firm could grow from a two-person operation 14 years ago to a 50-person business today.

He highlighted one particular scheme, Microinvest, whereby the Government handed out about €12 million in tax credits.
