The Futsal Premier League table remained unchanged this week after leading trio Żejtun, Balzan and Hibernians won their respective encounters against Floriana, Tarxien Rainbows and Sliema to maintain their unbeaten run.

In the first game in programme, Żejtun took on Floriana with both teams chasing a win to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Floriana were the better side in the first half as Daniel Brincat struck a brace to give them a 2-0 lead.

Glenn Barry pulled one back for Żejtun four minutes from half-time as fatigue took its toll on the Floriana players.

Żejtun upped their game to score five times without reply.

Pio Sciriha narrowed the deficit for Floriana with a fine strike but the Greens then had goalkeeper Brian Baldacchino sent off by referee Franco Cachia for handling the ball outside the D area.

With Floriana reduced to four players, Barry got his third goal two minutes from time as the Corinthians won 7-3 to take their tally to 13 points.

The game between Lija Athletic and Luxol St Andrew’s ended in a 7-3 victory for the former team.

After a fifth consecutive upset, Luxol coach Simone Montagno knows that his team are facing an uphill struggle t to keep their place in the top flight.

Defending champions Balzan FC had a tough test on Friday night as they were up against an organised Tarxien side in what can be described as the clash of the Romanians.

Newly-signed Cosmin Anton made his return to the local league, after a short spell with Excess Lazio FC in 2010, as he joined his brother, Balzan player-coach Florin Anton.

Led by Romanian duo Gabriel Dobre and Emil Raducu, Tarxien offered stern resistance to the champions but Balzan enjoyed the upperhand, winning 4-2.

Basel Emeka hit a brace for Balzan while Tarxien had the promising Giancarlo Sammut among their scorers.

Hibs and Sliema Wanderers rounded up Match-Day Six with an entertaining clash.

The Paolites dominated the first half to go 3-0 ahead but Sliema’s second-half reaction injected fresh interest into the game as the Wanderers narrowed the gap to 3-2 and also missed several scoring opportunities.

Hibs, however, scored two quick goals in the latter stages to make sure of the points.
