Anton Gambina and friends write:

It was a great shock when the news broke that our great friend John had passed away.

Many of us knew him as il-Bubble, a nickname given when he was a chubby boy, which always brought back blissful memories of his youth and a genuine smile to his face whenever we addressed him so, right up to his very last days.

Our long-time charismatic friend touched everyone’s heart. He was a people’s person, loved and respected, and always had kind words for everyone. Those of us who were lucky enough to share his friendship will sorely miss his presence and positive influence.

We knew he was suffering in silence during the last year or so, but especially during the last few weeks. He fought his illness with great courage and fortitude, whether in hospital, at home or on our recent but irregular outings. In depths of great pain and despair he never gave up. He never let it get him down and remained of good humour and spirit till the very end.

Our heart goes out to his wife Claire and their immediate families. May you find comfort in knowing that Bubble has left an incredible impact on all who knew him, past and present.

Rest in peace dear John. We will never forget our conversations, nor the good laughs, nor your kindness and invaluable friendship. You will be missed, and forever in our thoughts.

It is now time to enjoy the good Lord.
