Żejtun Corinthians stayed on top of the table after sharing the points with title hopefuls Lija Athletic in the game of the week.

Backed by an enthusiastic support, Żejtun were intent on maintaining their 100 per cent record but had to settle for a point after Lija fought back to force a 5-5 draw in an exciting clash.

Goalkeeper Kurt Saliba’s fine saves allowed Żejtun to keep their noses in front for most of the game but in the final quarter, the tempo changed dramatically as Lija applied the ‘flying keeper’ tactic, utilising Noel Bray on the flank to unlock the Żejtun rearguard.

Lija also profited from a man-up situation, after Jesmond Micallef was sent off for a second yellow card, and equalised in the final minutes.

With this draw, both teams stay firmly in contention for the play-offs.

In other matches, Hibs and Balzan FC obtained victories over Tarxien and Ħamrun respectively.

As the final 4-3 scoreline clearly shows, Hibs had to endure intense pressure from Tarxien, who were inspired by their two Romanians, but the Paolites held on to preserve their unbeaten record.

Balzan dominated their game against Ħamrun from start to finish, winning it 13-1.

This evening, Balzan are expected to face a sterner test as they clash against Floriana at the Corradino Pavilion.

Meanwhile, Valletta and Luxol St Andrew’s collected their first point of the season after figuring in a 6-6 draw.

The result is likely to have brought greater satisfaction to Kevin Loughborough’s Valletta as Luxol boast more experience in futsal.
