Last Sunday’s Open Day at the restoration premises of Heritage Malta in Bighi was an interesting showcase of the quality services being constantly provided in the conservation and restoration of our patrimony.

Congratulations to the restorers in the various departments who delivered detailed explanations of practical techniques as well as ethical procedures which these professionals employ with utmost dedication. Well done also to the managerial staff for the professional organisation including the set up of the various workshops and their particular equipment.

This was also a pleasant opportunity to see numerous unusual items which were on display and which are restored. These included the National Flag which was raised on the eve of Malta’s Independence and the old shop sign which used to hang at the Egyptian Queen music hall in Valletta’s Strait Street.

Such a visit leaves one with a sense of appreciation and admiration at the great contribution which members of this professional team give to our national heritage in the silence of their workplace.
