Gozo Day was celebrated at Independence Square in Victoria last Sunday. A commemorative poem, San Kalċidonju t’Għawdex, by Anton Buttigieg was read by student Claire Cremona, while the Victoria Primary School students’ choir sang the Gozo College Anthem and a hymn in honour of archpriest Saverio Cassar, who played a pivotal role in the liberation of Gozo from the French. The choir also sang Logħba li Għandha, with lyrics by Joe Friggieri and music by Charles Camilleri. Charles Buttigieg, winner of the President’s Award for Creativity, sang Nella Fantasia by Ennio Morricone. Flowers were also placed at the foot of Fr Cassar’s monument by various personalities and entities.
