Alyssa Ashley Loyola joined Luxol, Hibs and Depiro McDonald’s in the semi-finals thanks to their victory over Honey Athleta.

The Loyola girls will face Hibs in the last-four stage while Luxol play Depiro.

In the main match last weekend, Loyola were too strong for Athleta, thanks to their better shooting.

Loyola turned the ball well in attack until they freed one of their players for a comfortable shot against the slow-moving Athleta zone.

After holding a slight edge at the end of the first quarter, 12-9, Loyola increased their lead to 26-17.

Athleta made a reaction in the closing minutes before the break, reducing the deficit to one point 26-25.

Loyola dominated the third session to increase their advantage to 45-32. Athleta stepped up their game in the last 10 minutes but after moving to within three points of their opponents, 47-44, careless passes allowed Loyola to recover and win 55-47.

Hibs, who were without injured playmaker Nadia Mifsud, took a while to settle as they trailed Starlites 23-20 at half-time.

The Paolites improved and took full control in the last 10 minutes to run out 57-34 winners.

Luxol met little resistance from Phoenix Qormi, winning 77-25.
