The man who last Friday spent four hours threatening to commit suicide was arraigned this morning accused of stabbing and seriously injuring a nurse.

Noel Calleja, 32, of Sta Venera, last Friday momentarily fled police escort and sat on a horizontal pole in ta’ Farsina, Qormi for four hours.

He was charged this morning with the attempted murder of the nurse, Jacqueline Depasquale, seriously injuring her, holding her and Nicola Cutajar against their will, stealing an MMDNA car, damaging another car and relapsing.

His lawyer, Jose Herrera, said his client was not fit to stand trial.

Magistrate Doreen Clark nominated three psychiatrists to examine him and sent him to Mount Carmel Hospital.
