A very old chapel, perhaps the oldest in Malta, is that found in the limits of Rabat dedicated to St Michael. It is known as Ta’ Sanċir. It is a medieval chapel and a Roman column is included in one of its arches. It is as historic as the chapels of Santa Cecilia in Gozo and San Pawl Milqi in Burmarrad.

This chapel is found among the fields at Ġnien is-Sultan. Very few people know about it and those who do, when they find it, see an abandoned chapel literally falling apart, which is a big shame.

Such a historic building needs to be preserved and, looking at it, one can detect a precious structure that forms part of our heritage.

I do not know under whose jurisdiction the chapel falls but whoever is responsible should restore it and salvage it as soon as possible before we lose it forever.
