Neptunes Emirates were stunned by Sliema McDonald’s fightback qualities in the third tie from the BOV National League final play-offs on Wednesday as the Blues pulled back to 2-1 in the series to avoid an embarrassing white-wash at the hands of their sporting foes.

The Reds had opened the best-of-five contest with two comfortable wins.

However, their hopes of wrapping the title for a third successive time in midweek were dashed when Sliema hit back strongly and deservedly won the match 11-8, pushing the series to a fourth match which will be played this evening.

If Sliema win again today and a fifth and final match is required to determine this year’s champions, the decider will take place next Tuesday.

Today’s match will be the only fixture in programme at Tal-Qroqq as the First Division title has now been assigned with Marsascala Mor€ re-taining the championship they had won last year.

On Wednesday, Marsascala beat Valletta Sterling a second time to clinch the best-of-three final series on a 2-0 verdict.
