Artist Ray Piscopo will be speaking about his career and technique to members and guests of the Art Discussion Group during their monthly meeting at the Misco offices, on the first floor of the Fino showroom in Notabile Road, Mriehel, on Tuesday at 7.15 p.m.

Piscopo, who is 58, is an engineer by profession, but also an established artist who has taken part in various exhibitions in Malta and abroad, including Spain, Italy and Austria. Towards the end of this year he will be holding a large exhibition of paintings interpreting the Old Masters at the Cavalieri Hotel, St Julian’s.

On Tuesday, the artist will be introduced by the group’s chairman, art critic E.V. Borg and answer questions from the audience and project illustrations of his works.

Piscopo interprets the great masters, including Pontormo, Guido Reni, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Leonardo, in a modern idiom. His strength lies in vibrant colour, strong line and structured compositions.

Piscopo has studied under Antoine Camilleri, Anton Calleja and George Muscat, and also attended Luciana Notturni’s workshop on mosaics in Ravenna, Italy.

In 2008 he won second prize in the Piero Della Francesca art competition in Arezzo, Italy.

Tuesday’s meeting is open to members of the ADG and to all art lovers.
