An alleged drug trafficker yesterday refused to give his particulars in court and was remanded in custody after failing to make a request for bail.

Robert Agius, 28, from St Paul’s Bay, stood in the dock wearing a suit and tie and when asked for his personal details, exercised his right not to answer.

He pleaded not guilty to conspiring to traffic in heroin, possession of this drug and illegally keeping a gun at his residence on Wednesday.

As the arraignment got under way, defence lawyers Robert Abela, Arthur Azzopardi and Kathleen Grima spoke at the Bench with Police Inspector Pierre Grech and Magistrate Francesco Depasquale.

On returning, Dr Azzopardi said he would not be making a request for bail and Mr Agius was remanded in custody.
