The Malta Music Awards and Bay Music Awards may be more prominent in the public eye as the main events related to awarding the previous year’s best songs, bands and artists, but the online Mużika Mod Ieħor listeners’ polls are equally significant in this regard.

The online polls are linked to Toni Sant’s weekly podcasts highlighting musical releases connected to Malta and cover some categories that aren’t catered for by the abovementioned (and more commercially-minded) local events.

“These annual polls are intended to establish the favourite releases by listeners of my weekly Mużika Mod Ieħor podcasts,” Sant said.

“This is the sixth edition of the polls, and while the list is extensive, it is not fully comprehensive. The scope, however, remains that of including as many titles as possible in the lists of nominations.”

Listeners were able to vote via a Facebook app developed by Kenneth Vella between December 3 and New Year’s Day, and more than 600 votes were cast in each category. The results of the polls are:

Top Albums
Danjeli – Kontro Natura
Nosnow/Noalps – Romanikpolitik
Tenishia – Frozen Roads

Top Singles
Big Band Brothers – Rain Or Shine
Dimal & Maddee – Go Low
The Crowns – Out Of Nowhere

The results of the 2011 Listeners’ Polls were announced during the 282nd edition of Toni Sant’s Mużika Mod Ieħor podcasts which, like all of his other podcasts, can be downloaded for free at www.tonisant.com.
