The Island Car Club (ICC) recently staged an event in Kalkara for the first time, providing a pleasant surprise to the drivers.
Although the hill is one of the shorter stretches on the ICC circuit, it still offered a challenging set of curves and chicanes.
With an average track time of 45 seconds, the drivers produced a commendable show, demonstrating their car-handling abilities when pushed to the limit.
On the day, the top three positions were filled by single-seater racers with Simon Camilleri first with a track time clocked at 37.952 seconds.
Despite taking an extended break last year, Steve Zammit Cutajar clocked 38.661 seconds to finish second.
Ivan Paul Deidun, a newcomer to ICC racing, was third in his home-built prototype with a time of 38.978 seconds.
Together with most of the regular drivers, the ICC also enjoyed the company of some of the VGP drivers who raced with their classic motors featuring Minis and a Lancia.
The ICC showed their appreciation to the Kalkara Local Council for providing them with the venue, vice-mayor Norbert Grech, Police Inspector M. Sammut and all ICC members for their continuous support.
