Marsaxlokk coach Winston Muscat tendered his resignation yesterday.

Muscat was appointed Marsa-xlokk coach last summer following the departure of Patrick Curmi but the team's indifferent start to the season prompted Muscat to step down after only eight league games. Marsaxlokk are fourth from bottom with seven points.

The 3-1 defeat to Qormi on Saturday appears to have been the final straw for Muscat who handed in his letter of resignation to the club committee yesterday.

The Marsaxlokk officials were expected to discuss Muscat’s resignation during a meeting last night.

Assistant coach Darren Abdilla has been put in temporary charge of the team as the Marsaxlokk committee begin their search for Muscat's successor. The Blues face Balzan Youths on Sunday.

Amamoo saga

Meanwhile, Floriana have opened an investigation into goalkeeper William Amamoo's behaviour in the hours before Sunday's derby against Valletta.

Johan Said, the Floriana president, claimed on television that Amamoo informed the club that he was feeling unwell on Sunday morning but after examining the Ghanaian goalkeeper, the club doctor certified him fit to play.

Amamoo did report for duty in the afternoon but pulled out of the match after complaining of sickness.
