Maltese Franciscan Capuchin Emanuel Barbara was ordained bishop in Malindi, Kenya this morning.

Bishop Barbara, who was ordained priest in 1974, has served as Provincial Minister of the Maltese Capuchin Province.

Bishop Barbara will be serving the church in the diocese of Malindi.

In a message read during the ceremony, Archbishop Paul Cremona told bishop Barbara that his mission was to strengthen his flock in faith and lead by example.

He told the congregation:

"Bishop Barbara comes to you as a priest who has already shown his love for the Church in Kenya, having served there already for a number of years. Now, after passing some years in Malta, the Lord is calling him to serve again this Church and its people, this time as Bishop," Mgr Cremona said.
