Reader Enzo Cachia has sent these pictures of the former Jerma Palace Hotel in Marsascala, which, he said, has been reduced to a dangerous shell which is posing a danger.

The four-star hotel, the only big hotel in the south of Malta, was closed down in March 2007 and the building has since been stripped of everything.

Mr Cachia said there is open access to the site, which has become a mecca to campers who occupy the area without a permit.

"The area has become a dumping site. Nobody seems to be monitoring the situation."

He insisted that somebody should be held responsible for the upkeep of the area  and the safety of the public.

"What used to be a gem in Marsascala is now posing a threat to the health and safety of those who frequent the area. Let us only hope the former Jerma Palace Hotel won't follow the same fate of White Rocks.

"Nobody is compelling the owners to redevelop the site but the least they can do is clean up the mess," Mr Cachia said.
