The University of Malta has launched a postgraduate award in digital arts practice and theory that takes a cross-disciplinary approach to creative expression and communication. This is a relatively new and exciting field of research that covers the convergence of technology with fine art, video, film, performance, games, design and online art.

The degree, being offered by the Department of Digital Arts, offers a comprehensive approach to image-making that encourages innovation through practice-based research methods and provides students with the creative and theoretical foundation upon which they can build their contributions to this dynamic field.

The course encourages the development of critical and original approaches to creative production and enables students to investigate the influence of new digital technologies in relation to creativity and communication. The programme provides a framework within which students are prepared for further academic research as well as integration into the various industries requiring digital creativity.

Skills attained will allow graduates to significantly contribute to the development of content in a variety of fields. They will become eligible for employment in areas with a focus on creative digital media production, such as the video and contemporary arts fields, the graphic design industry and in other fields that increasingly draw upon the creation of new media talent such as those of the audio-visual, serious gaming, mobile services, social software and IT.

The department falls within the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences. For further information go to da.maks@um.edu.mt. Applications at: https://esims.um.edu.mt/esims/ipp/appcourses.html
