A five-year-old boy was saved from drowning at Ramla Bay, Gozo, thanks to prompt action by volunteer lifeguards this afternoon.

The Emergency Response and Rescue Corps said one of its volunteer lifeguards noticed that the young boy was in difficulties and managed to pull him to shore.

The boy was given first aid on the scene and later transferred to the Gozo General Hospital by ambulance. The ERRC thanked a doctor who assisted the team and the staff of Gozo General Hospital.

The lifeguarding service at Ramla is being run on a daily basis till the end of September with support from the Ministry for Gozo – ECO Gozo and the Gaia foundation.

The ERRC is made up mostly of former members of the Red Cross (Gozo branch).
