Chetcuti 13th in Slovenia

William Chetcuti just missed out on a place in the ISSF World Cup Double Trap final in Slovenia yesterday as he finished just one point short of a top-six placing.

Competing in his first World Cup shoot since his triumph in Beijing in April, Chetcuti hit excellent scores of 49 and 48 in the opening two rounds. A slightly inferior 46 in the third round, however, proved fatal for Chetcuti who finished tied with five other shooters on 143.

He was classified 13th overall as Daniele di Spigno, of Italy, had the better of Slovakia’s Filip Praj in a shoot-off for sixth place after finishing equal on 144 clays.

The top six at the end of the first phase were separated by just two clays with Peter Wilson and Binyuan Hu finishing joint-first with 146 points.

Britain’s Wilson went on to win gold after a score of 43 in the final to top the standings on 189. India’s Ronjan Sodhi and Hu, of China, were joint-second on 188.

Nathan Lee Xuereb, Malta’s other shooter in Maribor yesterday, finished 48th. He hit scores of 41, 41 and 46 for an overall tally of 128.
