A group of young people from different political and educational backgrounds set up StandUp this evening, a new movement in favour of the introduction of divorce.

Group spokesmen Nikita Alamango and Cyrus Engerer said they will embark on an informative, positive campaign and encouraged the participation of youths.

The campaign, they said, is intended to explain the importance of the introduction of responsible divorce in Malta.

The group intends to organise several events and earlier this week launched a blog ( http://standupmalta.wordpress.com/ ) which has attracted more than 2,000 hits in a few days.

StandUP believes that as a society Malta had to understand there were different realities. It said it was in favour of divorce because it believes in a second chance.

"A Yes vote will change the lives of many people," it said.
