An extension to a room built pre-1967 and an extension to a scheduled pre-World War II pill-box were this morning demolished in enforcement action by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

The person who carried out the extensions and was using the property was unknown to Mepa so no steps had been taken to rectify the situation.

Mepa enformcent director Alex Borg said Mepa’s message was that it would not tolerate any more illegalities.

“There is the idea that because it’s Armier anything goes but we will not tolerate this anymore,” he said.

When asked what was going to be done about the other illegal properties in the area, he said that most of them were built pre-Mepa so the authority was waiting for political direction.

There were two options the authority could take, he said - regularise or remove them.
