3am Systems director Brian Cauchi received the Malta/WIPO Gold Medal for Best Inventor from Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi.

Engineer Brian Cauchi was presented with the Malta/WIPO Gold Medal for Best Inventor earlier this month in recognition of his work on communications analysers.

The work was commercialised as 3am Line Scope and the product has since been adopted by payment terminal makers, product integrators and certification labs worldwide. It was also employed in a high-profile patent litigation case in the US to disprove infringement allegations.

Mr Cauchi is a director of 3am Systems, a technology start-up based in Malta. He holds a visiting teaching post at the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering, Faculty of ICT, University of Malta, where he is now following a taught Masters programme in Telecommunications.

The UN’s World Intellectual Property Organisation is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.

The national Malta/WIPO awards are conferred on the recommendation of the Commerce Department at the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Investment.
