US Grammy-winning alt.rock band Foo Fighters recently attracted a fresh wave of internet hype when they posted another snippet from their upcoming seventh studio album.

The first snippet had been revealed online at www.foofighters.fm some weeks ago, with the overwhelming response by fans eager for new material clearly paving the way for the band to move another step forward and reveal another snippet as the April 12 release date for the as-yet-untitled album draws nearer.

Foo Fighters fans in California were luckier since they had the chance to hear the new songs at an intimate surprise gig the band played at the Velvet Jones Club in Santa Barbara. The performance featured a run-through of the new album in its entirety, following it up with a powerful ‘greatest hits’ set and a few songs that rarely make the live sets.

The new album is the first Foo Fighters album to be produced by Butch Vig (the man behindNirvana’s epic Nevermind album), who had previously produced Wheels and Word Forward, the only new tracks on the band’s 2009 Greatest Hits release.

The Nirvana connection is boosted with a cameo appearance by Krist Novoselic playing bass and accordion on I Should Have Known, as well as former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear, who has now been confirmed as a permanent member of Foo Fighters alongside Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Foo Fighters announced details of a series of live dates that will kick off in the US in May, followed by headlining appearances at the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK, Pinkpop in Holland, and theWulheide Stadium in Berlin.

The band will be playing further dates across the UK and Europe, among them a sold-out weekend headliner at the Milton Keynes Bowl in England in July.
