Floriana lead chase for Michael Mifsud

Michael Mifsud is weighing up an offer to join Floriana.

Emboldened by the team’s rise to second place in the BOV Premier League, the Greens have intensified their efforts to try and convince Mifsud to join them until the end of the season.

The Malta captain has been without a club since ending his short spell with Valletta by helping the Whites land the U*Bet FA Trophy in May last year.

Valletta made several attempts to lure Mifsud back to their fold in the past few months but Floriana have also been persistently linked with the 29-year-old forward.

Top Floriana officials, headed by president Johan Said and team manager Jeffrey Farrugia, are believed to have been in regular contact with Mifsud, this week with a view to securing his signature.

Sources have told The Times that Mifsud, Malta’s all-time leading scorer with 25 goals, is seriously considering Floriana’s offer and will make a decision in the coming days. The former Kaiserslautern, Lillestrom and Coventry striker has also been contacted by a host of foreign agents in the past few weeks.

Floriana have already brought in three players during this month’s transfer window, namely Nigerian striker Daniel Nwoke, Bulgarian forward Dragomir Draganov and wing-back Thomas Paris who joined them on loan from Birkirkara.

The Greens, who face third placed Tarxien Rainbows on Sunday, are also in talks to sign Etienne Barbara on a short-term deal.
