The Malta Environment and Planning Authority this morning approved the construction of light walkway at the Ggantija temples by Heritage Malta.

The walkway is intended to minimise the damage caused by people walking into the temples since it will be elevated. It will allow people access into the second temple which was previously closed to the public due to the damage caused.

The walkway will be made of wooden decking, an inert element, and it will be wheelchair accessible. It will be reversible.

The authority also approved the setting up of 15 information panels but the material to be used is to be decided at a later stage.

The Ggantija Temples Complex is a scheduled site of archaeological importance, designated as an archaeological park in the Gozo and Comino local plan.

The complex, consists of two megalithic temples surrounded by a massive common boundary wall and dates back to 3,600 BC.

Mepa this morning also dsmissed the setting up of a two-storey warehouse and cold storage facilities for fruit and vegetables at Triq il-Gradilja, Attard.
