Charlot Cassar is presenting a dynamic collection of ceramic wall-hanging works of art that explore the poetics of a transcendental landscape at St James Cavalier.

In this fifth solo exhibition entitled Earth, the artist fuses visual and technical elements into a landscape that goes beyond a recognisable context, inviting the viewer to explore a new earth, sometimes barren and arid, sometimes lush and alluring, but always hauntingly beautiful.

Fluid lines, texture and vibrant colours traverse the compositions, weaving patterns, creating spaces and intimate, secluded worlds.

The exhibition includes a series of diptychs and triptychs, characterised by fluid compositions that explore an imagined landscape. Mr Cassar’s work has over the past years developed into a strong and mature artistic vision that warrants attention.

The artist describes his project as his most ambitious so far, in scale, technically and artistically. Following his exhibition in the Netherlands in January 2009, Mr Cassar has been experimenting with different clays, composition, textural qualities, colour and glazes. This is the first time he is presenting work executed in earthenware clay. And Mr Cassar describes this change as a conscious decision on his part, bearing in mind the environmental impact of his work and describes the past months as pivotal in his development and technical growth as a ceramic artist.

• Earth runs until December 5.
