Charles Gauci has been elected honorary general secretary of the World Institute of Pain (WIP).
Dr Gauci is a graduate of the Royal University of Malta. He is a consultant in chronic pain management at Whipps Cross University Hospital, London, honorary consultant in chronic pain management at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, also in London, and visiting consultant in chronic pain management to the Ministry of Health, Malta holding regular clinics at Mater Dei Hospital.
He is a former member of the Council of the British Medical Association and of the Intractable Pain Society; he founded the Pain Intervention Interest Group of the society, and is also an international consultant in pain management to the Spine Institute of the American Hospital, Rome.
Dr Gauci was elected to the board of directors of WIP in 2001 and re-elected in 2004, when he also became chairman of its UK section.
WIP is a global organisation; its mission is to bring together experts in the field of pain medicine the world for the advancement and standardisation of interventional pain practice and the achievement of improved standards of care for pain patients.
