I was very surprised to read that the amount of rainfall that fell in 1979 was somewhere near 140mm. To my knowledge, on that day, a worker at Buskett Gardens measured over 300mm. He said it was over that amount because the measuring container had overflowed.

The damage caused on that day was never experienced before. Naturally enough all that water flowed down causing more damage and fatal accidents in the lower areas.

The amount measured in Luqa is for that area.

For example, the rain that fell in Dingli last Monday, which I measured, was 117mm.

Measuring amounts is not that difficult. Just put a pail with a perpendicular shank in an open space far from any shelter and measure the height of the water at the end of the day.
