Andrè Schembri scored a hat-trick to inspire Ferencvaros to a 3-1 win away to Vasas in the Hungarian league yesterday.

The in-form Maltese forward hit two quick goals to fire Ferencvaros into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 32 minutes.

Janos Lazok narrowed the deficit for Vasas on 52 minutes but the home team’s comeback hopes were extinguished by Schembri. The former SC Kartnen striker was on target again on 53 minutes to complete his hat-trick and seal Ferencvaros’s victory.

Ferencvaros have 13 points from eight matches, one adrift of joint leaders Videoton and MTK.

Despite his top performances for Fradi, Schembri was left out of Malta’s squad for this month’s Euro 2012 qualifiers against Israel (0-3) and Latvia (0-2).
