The height of summer is with us yet again. A time of the year most people wish to enjoy and yet, year after year, the public peace in Sliema is disturbed by noisy teenagers residing at The Windsor Hotel and The Diplomat Hotel.
Shame on these hotels for not heeding the insistent complaints from Sliema residents. By allowing their guests to take over the place with their noise pollution and street littering, hotels are allowing their guests to break the law by denying the fundamental rights of residents within the vicinity - the right to a peaceful night's sleep after 11 p.m. and the right to clean streets, which we pay our taxes for. The area of Windsor Terrace corner to Sir Arturo Mercieca Street has become a squalid slum. Towels and bits of clothing hang from balconies, food and rotten fruit are thrown into the street with impunity, men can be heard expectorating into the street... the squalid side of mass tourism.
