March 28, 1910: Henri Fabre standing besides the 50-horsepower engine Gnôme used to design the first hydroplane Le canard (The duck). The hydroplane was invented and piloted by Henri Fabre, from Marseilles, above the Berre pond, for its maiden flight. For the centenary of the flight, events were held over the weekend in Châteauneuf and Martigues, southern France, with a replica flight by amateurs from the Bordeaux region of the "Fabre 2010" association.
