The Malta Air-Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club recently hosted international referee David Goodfellow at its ranges in Bidnija.

Goodfellow is an experienced official who was recently elected as the head of jury at the India Pre-Commonwealth Games shoot. He has also been selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to oversee the refereeing aspect for target shooting events at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Goodfellow toured the Bidnija ranges and commented favourably on the organisation of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation (MSSF) and the branches in its fold.

During his visit, Goodfellow was also asked to be the judge for an airgun competition involving Maltese shooters.

Goodfellow, who distributed the medals to the winners at the end of the competition, was presented with a memento by MSSF official Edwin Vella.

The air-rifle event was won by William Vella. Lawrence Darmanin was second and Michael Xuereb third.

Eleanor Bezzina claimed top spot in the women's air-rifle competition ahead of Shirley Templeman and Josette Calleja. Ray Cacciattolo was the men's air-pistol event winner.

Meanwhile, the Malta Air-Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club will have another distinguished guest at Bidnija this week - Welsh coach John Kelman.

Kelman is to hold a week-long coaching clinic for Maltese air-pistol shooters who are preparing for next year's Games of the Small States of Europe in Liechtenstein.
