Saviour Portelli was re-elected president of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation during an annual general meeting which was held last weekend at the organisation's headquarters in Bidnija.

During the meeting, Carmel Cascun was elected secretary general and Frans Pace treasurer.

Edwin Vella retained his post as Public Relations Officer and the members in the MSSF council are Grezzju Agius, Jimmy Bugeja, Nicholas Carabott, George Cassar and Stephen Vella.

At the end of the meeting, Portelli thanked all those who contributed for all that was achieved during 2009 and the success obtained by Maltese shooters at home and abroad. He stressed for the cooperation of all those involved in the running of the sport and urged them to keep looking forward to a more prosperous future for shooting on our islands.

Portelli mentioned the importance of having a national shooting complex in the near future following a series of positive meetings with Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Clyde Puli and other authorities.

The MSSF president also reminded that it is practically impossible for local sports federations to make plans for the 2010 international programme when organisations like the MSSF are still in the dark regarding funding from the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC).

"It is almost too late to confirm our participation in ISSF World Cups," Portelli said.

"In our opinion, this very much depends on the agreement which is yet to be reached between the authorities concerned regarding funding for sport for this year."

NCR Trap Trophy

Sunday at Bidnija was also reserved to a spectacular shoot-off between Jason J. Aquilina and Jeffrey Pisani to decide the winner of the NCR Trap Trophy after both had an equal score of 64.

Aquilina smashed 10 clays in the decider but Pisani missed his Station Five target for nine clays.

Another shoot-off was also required to determine third place, contested by George Cassar and Noel Attard who had finished with a tied 60. Cassar smashed his target from Station One but Attard missed his to settle for fourth place.
