A 29-year-old Libyan man was arrested by the police last night after a chase over rooftops.

The man had earlier broken into a home in Charles Street, giving a fright to a family which was in at the time.

The police were informed of the break-in by the family at about 12.30 a.m.

Officers from the Mobile Squad and Sliema district were on the scene within minutes.

They were told that the man had escaped over the rooftops.

The area was quickly surrounded by police cars and several policemen searched the rooftops and then gave chase.

The Libyan was caught when he jumped almost down two storeys onto a lower roof and injured himself.

He was taken to the Sliema police station, where he was questioned and later hospitalized.
