Former Labour Health Minister Daniel Piscopo died yesterday at the age of 90.

Dr Piscopo served in Dom Mintoff's Cabinet as Minister of Health between 1971 and 1974, Minister of Posts, Energy and Communications between 1974 and 1976 and Minister of Tourism between 1976 and 1978.

He was born in Cospicua on February 11, 1919 and entered the political fray in 1947.

The PL paid tribute to Dr Piscopo, remembering in particular his efforts to improve psychiatric care and modernise hospital services. The Nationalist Party also extended its condolences, saying that any person who chose to dedicate their life to serve their country deserved praise and recognition.

Dr Piscopo is survived by his wife Mary and his children Peter, Ivan and Vincent.

During yesterday's parliamentary sitting, Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg, Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat and Speaker Louis Galea expressed their condolences.
