The Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club last weekend organised a selection shoot ahead of the International Autumn Grand Prix of Shooting.

Members of other shooting clubs in Malta took part in this competition, notably in the air pistol event.

Ray Cacciattolo claimed top spot in air pistol with a score of 547+98.8 points. Vincent Borg (AMACS club) was second with 501+79.1 points and Martin Grech third with 497+84.2 points.

Although Borg booked his place in the upcoming shoot together with Cacciattolo in the pistol team event, the silver medal in last weekend's shoot was won by Grech. He moved ahead of Borg thanks to a better score in the final round.

Despite problems with her pistol, Eleanor Bezzina (MRPC club) still managed a respectable fourth placing with a score of 458+84.3 points. Bezzina will be representing Malta in the ladies' air pistol team event along with Josette Calleja.

The improved scores in the air rifle event will have encouraged the shooters whose dedication in training is clearly paying the desired dividends.

William Vella was the winner in this category with an excellent MQS score of 570+96.2. Second place went to Lawrence Darmanin who produced his best score of the season - 564+92.8.

Charlò Chircop notched 551 points in the qualifying round to finish ahead of Annabel Borg who achieved a personal best of 530. However, Chircop opted out of the final and Borg duly took advantage to win the bronze medal with a score of 88.7.

Gino Galea was the competitions' judge. He was assisted by Bernardette Chircop.

The air rifle and air pistol competitions at the 2009 Grand Prix will commence on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bidnija ranges.
