Eight shooters from the Malta Allied Airgunners Club (MAAC) will be taking part in the World Field Target Federation Championships in Pretoria, South Africa.

This will be the first time that Mario Spiteri, Carmelo Ellul, Gordon Gouder, Rene Scorfna, David Giardina, Stanley Shaw, James Bugeja and Kris Debattista will represent the country in this prestigious competition, starting on September 25.

The club has been gearing up for the championships for the past six months now, with regular weekend training that continued even during the hot summer months.

Spiteri will figure in the veterans event and Gouder, Scorfna and Ellul in the Open. Giardina, Shaw, Bugeja and Debattista will take part in the Spring Piston Class.

The shooters will have to complete three rounds, one on each day of the championships with 50 targets in each course.

The Malta team has also been invited by the South African Bench Rest Association to compete in a head-to-head challenge in air-rifles and rimfire rifles at 25m distance.

This friendly match-up will take place on September 28.

The Maltese contingent will be leaving for South Africa on Monday.
