The wife of a man who last week was charged with attacking a care worker yesterday admitted to assaulting the same woman in another incident.

The 23-year-old Somali, Amina Mohamed Heybe, who is five months pregnant, admitted to assaulting three police officers and a care worker, Gertrude Catania, 12 days after her husband also allegedly assaulted Ms Catania.

Ms Heybe got into an argument with Ms Catania at Dar il-Qawsalla, in Birkirkara yesterday and even assaulted her, police sources said. The police were called in and she assaulted them when they tried to calm her down.

Her husband, Abdi Qaadir Ahmed was remanded into custody after pleading not guilty to assaulting Ms Catania with a knife on August 29 and threatening his wife.

Magistrate Edwina Grima took into consideration the fact that Ms Heybe is five months pregnant, is only 23 years old and that she has a clean police record. The court handed down a seven-month jail term suspended for two years.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Legal aid lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared for Ms Heybe.
