Toni: Luca Toni is "80 per cent likely" to move to Roma before the transfer window closes, the Bayern Munich striker's agent said. "It's a situation that is 80 per cent likely be concluded successfully," Jose Alberti said. "At the moment there is no negotiation but only an interest on Roma's part. Both the club and the player have been informed and Roma are awaiting a response from Bayern Munich."

Champions AZ Alkmaar, 6-0 winners at RKC Waalwijk on Saturday, are fourth with six points ahead of Ajax on goal difference. PSV are sixth with five points.

Ribery: Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has denied pushing for a move to Real Madrid and insisted he is staying put. "I never said I wanted to go to Real," the Frenchman was quoted as saying. "If I wanted to leave, I would have made an announcement. What bothers me is that I have never spoken about it."

Grygera: Juventus defender Zdenek Grygera has been linked with a move to Barcelona but the player's agent, Mino Raiola, believes the Czech Republic international will remain in Turin. "For the time being the situation is calm," Raiola said. "The player is fine at Juventus but the transfer market is still long, and as you know, in football anything can happen."

Tennis: Jelena Jankovic clawed her way into the final of the WTA Cincinnati Open on Saturday night after beating Russian Elena Dementieva 7-6 (7/2), 0-6, 7-6 (8/6) in a scrappy semi-final. In last night's final, Jankovic, the fifth seed, was playing world number one Dinara Safina who needed just 56 minutes to post a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Italy's Flavia Pennetta earlier on Saturday.

Rugby Union: Daniel Carter has been named in a 26-man squad for New Zealand's Tri-Nations test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday. Carter, the All Blacks' first-choice flyhalf, played two matches in New Zealand's top-flight provincial competition in recent weeks, after being sidelined for six months by a serious Achilles injury.

Cricket: Uncapped batsman Jonathan Trott will make his England debut in the Ashes decider against Australia, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said yesterday. The ECB also included all rounder Andrew Flintoff in a 14-man squad for the match, which starts at The Oval on Thursday, but Essex batsman Ravi Bopara has been left out after struggling throughout the series.
