Although millions of euros have been spent on the sewage treatment plant in Gozo, a huge brown sludge patch can be seen just under the Wied il-Mielah window and the smell is unbearable.

Reader John Michael Mizzi said the sludge patch is stretching and being carried by the strong winds for kilometres upstream to the main tourist beaches in Gozo.

"While walking in the magnificent Wied il-Mielah valley the sound of sewage flowing in the pipes leading to sea can be heard like a strong water stream."

Considering that Gozo is being promoted as an Eco island, this is unacceptable, Mr Mizzi said.
