Slovakia is considering the possibility of assisting Malta in the resettlement of migrants holding humanitarian protection status.

The problem of illegal migration in Malta was discussed during talks between Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajcak.

Mr Laycak said that Slovakia was considering the possibilities of assistance within the European Immigration and Asylum Pact.

Dr Borg said the two sides had discussed various areas where bilateral cooperation could be improved, including cultural exchanges and tourism. The number of tourists from Slovakia visiting Malta grew over the past few months and Dr Borg said he was sure there was potential for further growth.

He also underlined the need for trade delegations to explore trade and investment opportunities.
