Emanuel Bajada, 55 of Qawra, today admitted in court to money laundering the proceeds of prostitution in May 2005 and previous months.

Magistrate Anthony Vella said the evidence showed that the accused was involved in the running of two guest houses used for prostitution, Adams Guest house in St Julian's and Pace's guest house in Sliema. The activity lasted two months when the police intervened and arrested all concerned.

Police investigations eventually broadened to include money laundering. Income from this activity reach €4000 of which half were used for the payment of rent for one of the guest houses.

The court in considering sentence said that the accused had cooperated and assisted in police investigations, leading to other arrests. He was handed a two-year jail term suspended for four years and fined €50,000.
