Consultation documents on a Building Regulations Act and on regulations on the avoidance of damage to third party properties were launched this afternoon.

Resources Minister George Pullicino said the law would provide for the creation of a Building Regulations Office under his ministry to ensure that buildings were built according to technical specifications.

The regulations would ensure that before any demolition, excavation and construction was carried out, a methodological statement outlining the method of construction would be produced and made public.

The regulations would make it obligatory to have a classification of contractors according to their size, expertise and capabilities.

Methodological statements would be compulsory as would insurance that also covered third parties.

The documents are available at mrra.gov.mt. Submissions may be sent to buildingregulations@mrra.gov.mt .
