President Eddie Fenech Adami unveiling a bronze bust dedicated to the Maltese St Gorg Preca in Melbourne during his state visit to Australia.

Dr Fenech Adami, who is accompanied by Mrs Fenech Adami and Foreign Minister Tonio Borg, said it was an honour for him to unveil this monument which reminded all Maltese of their cultural Christian values, a characteristic of Matlese identity.

The President praised the valuable work of the M.U.S.E.U.M members in Australia based on the teachings of their founder San Gorg Preca “the benefactor who have left a mark on all Maltese”.

Following the unveiling of the monument, the President and Mrs Fenech Adami together with Dr Borg, joined Australian dignitaries at the National Mourning Day Service in grief and sympathy for the Victoria Bushfires victims.

President Fenech Adami described the service, held at the Rod Laver Arena, as a moving experience and an Australian expression of solidarity. The number of persons who died in this tragedy has reached 209, including a Maltese father and son.

The President later met the Maltese community at the Maltese Community Council of Victoria, the largest Maltese community outside Malta.

The Maltese delegation are now in Canberra.
