Daniel Bogdanovic has completed his switch to Barnsley after signing an 18-month deal, the English club said on their website (www.barnsleyfc.co.uk) yesterday.

The 28-year-old Malta striker joins Barnsley from Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Sofia for an undisclosed fee.

The Sunday Times reported last weekend that Bogdanovic was on the verge of moving for Barnsley after the latter agreed a transfer fee with Lokomotiv Sofia.

Barnsley yesterday announced that Bogdanovic had agreed personal terms and signed a contract that will keep him at Oakwell until the summer of 2010.

"This is a great club with a great dressing room and everybody has been very welcoming to me. I came here training last week and really enjoyed my time with the team," Bogdanovic told the club's website.

"I have always wanted to come and play in England. I have been a little frustrated in Bulgaria because, although the club was fantastic, the country is not very good to live in. We played in the UEFA Cup this year but life in Bulgaria is not too great.

"I was looking for a change and I had offers from a number of Italian clubs but my dream has always been to come and play in England.

"I played in Italy before with Cisco Roma where I had the opportunity to meet Paulo Di Canio who had told me everything about the English game and gave me a lot of advice about moving to the UK. I am very excited about my first game in England."

Bogdanovic's move to Barnsley increases the number of Maltese players in the English Championship to three. Striker Michael Mifsud plays for Coventry City while goalkeeper Justin Haber is engaged with Sheffield United.

Asked about his ambitions, Bogdanovic was quite frank in his reply.

"I am a goalscorer not a target man," he said. "I like to play football. I was born with a gift and that is to put the ball in the net. That is the most important thing.

"I know Michael Mifsud very well and we have played a lot together for the Malta national team. It is nice for the Maltese people to have some of their players at the highest level.

"I want to come here, do my best and score a lot of goals. I want to win something for Barnsley."

Bogdanovic, who had joined Lokomotiv last summer on a free transfer, could make his first appearance for Barnsley this evening when they host Ipswich in a league match at the Oakwell Stadium.

Barnsley are currently 17th in the league with 32 points from 28 matches.
