I read on timesofmalta.com that an updated waste management strategy has been launched by Resources Minister George Pullicino. To eliminate, as far as possible, the need to landfill waste, the government is proposing to build a municipal and agricultural waste treatment plant between Magħtab and Għallis and a similar but smaller plant between Sannat and Xewkija in Gozo. The latter waste treatment facility will eliminate the need to transport municipal waste to Malta, as is being done at present.

These initiatives, to manage our waste in a highly developed way, are indeed most welcome. An incinerator, to treat waste produced which cannot be turned into compost by the treatment plants to be built at Delimara, is also a positive move to further improve our waste management and minimize, as much as possible, the damage to our environment.
